The Big Red One

1980

Samuel Fuller
Director

Grizzled sergeant, Marvin, naturally, leads a unit of green recruits through the horrors of WWII. Curiously muted, I was expecting Peckinpah (I prefer Cross Of Iron-like action), but worthy anti war film from Sam Fuller who served with the unit himself.
A 'reconstruction' version of the film made its way onto DVD in 2005 and has some 44 minutes of restored footage.
