Castle Keep

1969

Sydney Pollack
Director
Columbia Pictures
Production Company

A platoon holes up in a french castle determined to save it from the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge.

An oddity even for the cusp of the 70s. Surreal WWII film with pretensions.

Falk is brilliant as a soldier who just wants to get home to his bakery. Many memorable moments and a few annoying ones, A companion piece to the Wild Bunch and Cross of Iron perhaps?

I hereby swear that the DVD release is missing some significant scenes from the version I saw back in the day.
