Star in the Night

1945

Don Siegel
Director
Warner Brothers
Studio

The nativity, re-enacted in an out of way motor court in the American Southwest.

One of the finest short films ever, well-acted, unpretentious and inspiring. That it was the debut of Don Siegel, soon to become the most hardboiled of directors, makes it that much more special.

In a year that has mostly seemed scripted in a lunatic's indecipherable scrawl, this is the kind of thing to watch, and perhaps hope its message is true.
