A hardened criminal makes a daring escape from the cold, remote, snowy confines of a top maximum security Alaskan jail. Unwittingly accompanied by a con who assisted him, they board a freight train and steam off towards freedom. Unfortunately for them the driver drops dead at the helm and the train picks up speed and momentum on a one-way journey towards disaster. All the time, the nasty warden is after them, trying desperately to board the train....which nobody is driving; which cannot stop. An under-rated thriller which keeps you on the edge of your seat for the most part.
Actor Eddie Bunker is credited as co-writer of the screenplay. ~ The Lord
Adapted from a screenplay by Akira Kurosawa, this action-thriller about a prison break by a hardened killer has stuff going on beneath the surface thrills. Voight is just off-the-chain in an astonishing performance. Occasionally too much but the finale, mixing in Vivaldi and Shakespeare makes for one of those Excalibur-like operatic endings.~ The Sloth
