Tensions are rising within the camp when Jack and Locke seem to disagree on how to deal with the current situation. Sun is abducted by a masked assailant and wounded in the jungle, which prompts an increased demand for access to the guns. The flashbacks are of Sawyer pulling his scams on a woman he has seemingly fallen in love with and his conscience. The episode ends with him taking over as the new leader of the group on the beach, having sneakily betrayed Locke's trust in him.
